Wolfram|Alpha in financial mathematics with an application of geometric sequences

Abstract

The paper deals with the use of free online service Wolfram|Alpha and geometric sequences in financial mathematics. The selected problems from the fields of finance (compound interest, future value of an annuity and loan amortization) are described using recursive rules and the relevant relations for calculation of the n-th member are derived using the properties of geometric sequences, and also the tool Wolfram|Alpha. The illustrative examples demonstrate the obtained results, their calculations are completed with Wolfram|Alpha. Additional possibilities of this computational tool concerning the mentioned financial topics are also presented.
