Abstract

Today, microscopy involves not only basic optical microscopy but a wide range of techniques that are used in all fields of medicine, including diagnostic methods, treatment and research. A thorough acquaintance with this topic is the basis not only for students of grammar schools and vocational high schools with a scientific and technical focus but also for every medical student because microscopy will be encountered in everyday practice. The e-learning course Microscopy was created to help students get acquainted with the basic principles of optical microscopy, with the control of an optical microscope and perform them with practical exercises. This course works with an interactive protocol that gives students quick feedback. It also allows you to send data to a central medical information system for subsequent processing. Concerning the exclusive need for distance learning during the covid-19 pandemic and based on student feedback, the e-learning course Microscopy was modified and enriched with a new detailed guide for practical exercises and a video tutorial for the study year 2020/2021. The benefits of these changes have been confirmed by tests.
