Abstract

The paper introduces several examples from the Collection of Application Exercises from Secondary School Mathematics that will soon be published by the publishing house Prometheus and the main aim of which is to show that mathematics is a useful and indispensable tool for the solution of various real-world problems. The paper is aimed at the exercises from the chapter devoted to probability that is often unjustly considered to be one of the least interesting and understandable parts of mathematics. The author introduces the tasks concerning hazard games, betting, conditional probabilities (above all false positive and negative tests) and credibility evaluation (e.g., efficiency of a medicament).
