Abstract

The algorithm known as Horner scheme is a quite interesting and practical tool either for determining the functional values of higher degree polynomials or for dividing a polynomial with another 1st-degree polynomial. This algorithm is accessible already for pupils on higher grades of elementary schools. In the text, we present not only the basis on which the algorithm is built but also its two non-traditional uses for school mathematics, namely the conversion of the number from the non-decimal numeral system to the decimal numeral system and the calculation of the value of the polynomial derivative in the given point.
