Abstract

The average (mean value) is a known statistical quantity (characteristic of a position), which pupils are getting familiarized with in the form of arithmetical average already at primary school, when they calculate, for example, the average grade on their school report. At secondary school, the students encounter sometimes also other types of averages, for example, the harmonical or geometrical mean. This article deals with the geometrical mean and presents to the teachers and students some solved application problems from financial mathematics and economics.
