Abstract

The European Olympiad from Experimental Science (EOES) is an international science competition in which approximately twenty countries participate each year [1]. This year, the competition took place in the Czech Republic, where teams of young biologists, chemists and physicists solved experimental problems over two days. In this article, we present a description of the physics part of the tasks, which can serve as inspiration for laboratory work in high school. It involves the measurement of viscosity, shear friction coefficient, surface tension and thickness of a human hair by diffraction.
