Abstract

In this article, we show step-by-step applications of common high school mathematics in web graphics. However, the current high school mathematics curriculum does not sufficiently focus on matrices, which are a key element in computer science. If students could master matrices, it would allow them to work more easily with graphical elements in SVG format. In addition to web graphics, matrices are also used in graph theory or electrical engineering, for example.

Pupils in general secondary schools are introduced to matrices marginally in the upper grades in elective subjects. There is then no time left for their application, either in web graphics or graph theory. I believe, however, that in vocational schools focusing on information technology or electrical engineering, students should be introduced to matrices at the beginning of their studies. Subsequent vocational subjects can then build on this knowledge.
