Abstract

The paper focuses on one of the basic problems of mathematical statistics – hypotheses testing. Its principles are explained with practical examples. The reader is led from the practical questions about possibility of generalization of a phenomenon observed on a small sample to its formulation in the form of a hypothesis. The possibility of subsequent hypothesis testing is then shown on the example of Fisher’s factorial test which is used to test the hypothesis of independence of two variables, each of which can have only two values.
