Abstract

An alternative way how to depict forces acting on the bob of a simple pendulum is presented. The reason for this is that the depiction of the forces cause problems in Czech physics textbooks. The starting point is an analysis of free-body diagrams, mainly in Czech textbooks. Several types of free-body diagrams have been identified. There is no depiction of the resultant force acting on the pendulum bob in a general position. The alternative way how to depict acting forces is shown: As we know the motion (its properties), we can determine the resultant acceleration and then the direction of the resultant force. Thereafter we can break it into the components.
