Abstract

The formative assessment requires from a teacher to analyse the information obtained in interacting with students and its use for providing meaningful feedback to increase the learning efficiency. An important supposition for the effective application of the formative assessment is: a teacher has identified typical students' mistakes and misconceptions, the cause of which is the misunderstanding of the basic concepts and relations. In our research, we focused on the diagnosis of misconceptions in probability, the classification of which was based on the papers of several authors. Two assessment sheets containing two tasks for diagnosing selected misconceptions are presented in the paper. Based on the analysis of the students' solutions, the methodological recommendations for the detection and elimination of selected misconceptions in the teaching of probability at secondary school are elaborated in the paper.
