Abstract

The paper discusses one of the skills of scientific thinking, the identification and control of variables. This skill has been shown in many international and Czech types of research to cause problems not only for primary and secondary school pupils but also for university students. In this paper, we present examples of several difficult tasks focused on the development of this skill and in one task we illustrate the possibility of using the Concept Cartoons method to practice this skill in primary schools. The tasks presented in the article can well serve as preparation for planning and designing suitable controlled experiments as well as drawing the right conclusions from the results.
