Abstract

The concept of mathematical analogies and their types (intuitive analogies and structural analogies) as well as reasoning by analogy are analyzed in the introductory part of the article. The classification of the essential didactic use of these analogies in mathematics teaching and some typical examples are dealt with in the following part. The main parts of the article clarify, and using interesting examples, illustrate the significance of the analogies as useful heuristic strategies in the solutions of mathematical and application tasks. The usage of structural analogies in mathematics teaching is discussed in the final part of the article.
