Estimates and estimating in mathematics

Abstract

The article deals with the role of estimates in teaching of mathematics and their connection with the counting by heart and with rounding numerical results. The emphasis is laid on upper and lower estimations. The article gives particular examples which may contribute to the development of pupils' skills to make adequate estimates and to use them in practical situations.
