Rectangle from ones (Problems from MO category P, part 48)
Abstract
In our journey through the interesting problems of the Mathematical Olympiad category P (programming), this time we will go back in time and show one problem from the regional round of the 38th MO. This edition of the Olympiad took place in the school year 1988/89, i.e. during socialist Czechoslovakia and at a time when the P category was just emerging. At that time, personal computers were not available in our country, so the assignments for the competition problems have not been preserved in electronic form and therefore cannot be found in the archive of problems on the Olympiad website – this archive does not begin until the 42nd MO in the school year 1992/93. We therefore had to reach into the old "paper" archive. We present the problem without modification in its original historical form.
